This working group is concerned with the development of insulating material for fire and heat protection via intumescent, ablative, ceramising and cooling processes.
Fire protection coatings
To protect a substrate (wood, steel, plastics) at temperatures of up to 1000°C, decorative coating materials are developed which provide protection against the effects of fire. Protection is provided by the formation of an insulating foam.
High-temperature insulating materials
These coating materials form an insulating and ceramic protective layer at high temperatures of up to 20000C, and can be adapted to specific applications.
Ceramising elastomers
These elastomer coatings, developed for missile technology, protect a substrate from thermal damage and hot gas currents at temperatures of up to 3000°C, via ablative and ceramising processes.
Ceramic fire protection compounds
Materials with high cooling properties are developed for fire protection and the cooling of hot gases.
